I began working at the Inland Revenue Department in Christchurch when I left school, and at the same time studied part-time for a Bachelor of Commerce degree. After 8 years with the IRD I married Warren and shifted to Blenheim. I joined a Chartered Accounting firm and was there for two years until our two children were born, both now adults and living in Wellington. After a few years break we shifted to Nelson where Warren and I became self-employed, owning and operating a music centre. This gave me practical hands on experience in running a small business and I can relate to many clients who operate small businesses of their own. I began work as an accountant in a Nelson accounting firm in1993. Responsibilities included preparing financial statements for many different entities including farming, company, trusts, and sole-traders. Giving advice to clients re business structures, ways to minimise taxation etc. Seven years later in June 2000 myself and the other employees brought out the client base, shifted to Richmond and set up A1 Accounting Ltd. April 1 2003 saw us change our name to Accounting Tasman Ltd. I am a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand and have a particular interest in taxation matters. I have a great interest in the Internet and am constantly amazed at how far computer technology has come and how it can be used to great effect in an accounting firm.
