I was born in Nelson and educated at Waimea College. I obtained my C. A. qualification from Nelson Polytechnic and admitted to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand in 1986. I worked for 9 years in the Audit Office, from 1982-1991, the last five as an Audit Supervisor responsible for the auditing of local bodies, hospitals, Area health boards, Government and commercial entities In 1992 I commenced work for a Nelson accounting practice preparing financial statements for many different entities, including farming, companies and trusts. I have an extensive knowledge of Company law and a particular interest in accountancy matters relating to Companies and Trusts. In June 2000 I became a director in A1 Accounting Ltd . On 1 April 2003 A1 Accounting changed their name to Accounting Tasman Ltd. I am married to Genevieve and my main interests are chess, soccer and reading. I play competitive chess at times, results include South Island Junior 1976, and South Island Senior Rapid Champion 1999. Runner up in the South Island Senior Champs in 1983, and 1998 and South Island Chess Champion in 2007.
